Vintage Style Chenille Halloween Ornaments – and Photos of my Gardens!

I just added a new set of 3 vintage style chenille  Halloween ornaments to the Old World Primitives Etsy shop. Each Halloween ornament is handmade of chenille and hand cut vintage Halloween images printed on card stock.

And now I have some garden photos to share – what a difference our new raised beds with great quality soil have made this year! We are using organic and/or heirloom seeds and seedlings, and absolutely no pesticides or chemicals. No fertilizer has been used yet, but we’ll add some of the organic compost that we are creating in our backyard Earth Machine composter soon.

My orange bell pepper plants are so happy and healthy this year! I can’t wait for them to get ripe.

Does anyone need any jalapeños?? I didn’t realize these plants were going to be so prolific – in a couple more weeks, we’ll be swimming in them!

This row of red and white onions were planted from seedlings, and they are extremely happy. I made the mistake of planting snow peas right next to them and THEN reading that snow peas don’t like to be next to onions, but they are still steadily producing nonetheless.

These are my onions planted from seed, after thinning, with my herbs behind them – dill, basil, parsley, and cilantro. I went a little too crazy with the cilantro.

Grape tomatoes – I picked and ate a few after I took this shot.

The biggest cluster of tomatoes I have ever grown – 9 and counting!

Help, help – the pickle cucumbers are coming! My husband is a pickle fanatic, so we planted 23 pickle cucumber plants this year. The canning might begin this weekend or early next week.

  1. Well my goodness..just look at how healthy everything is!!! Love all your photo’s Steph..everything looks yummy and is definitely thriving. We grow organic..except for the pumpkin patch..I’ve yet to have a year that I didn’t have to spray for cucumber beetles..for some reason they love viney plants..the miserable things!

    Love the ornies :)So sweet

23 cucumber plants….holy smokes…..do you realize what you’ve gotten yourself into……You’ll have to put up a roadside stand! 🙂

    Hugs,
    Doreen

  2. Your garden looks so awesome and kicks my little garden’s butt! Looks great. Also love the sweet little ornaments. Hey— is that your house on your website banner? Its beautiful! If so…I think I should come live with you, hehehe 😉

  3. Doreen – Thank you, and I might agree about the roadside stand! 🙂 My husband wants to keep everything all to himself, though – he is quite the pickle eater. We canned our first jar of them this weekend, can’t wait to taste them.

Heather – Thanks! I wish my house looked like my banner photo, but it’s not mine… yet. I took the photo inside a preserved period room in an 1810 gristmill in Canada that has been converted into a museum.

  4. Love the chenille owls Stephanie. You are so good at those little characters. What an amazing array of yummy veg. They look so healthy and fresh too. Happy eating – methinks you like peppers…ha ha.

  5. Hi Stephanie,
Your gardens are just BEAUTIFUL!!! WOW, your husband must really love his pickles!! I finally got my husband to make his garden smaller this. He loves gardening and always planted way to much. His thing is the tomatoes. We still have way to many of them.
I just love your chenille Ornaments!!! They really are wonderful!!!

  6. Cathy – Thank you! And although I like jalapeños, I think that one plant would have been enough! I wasn’t expecting to have so many ready for the picking at once. I’ll be doing plenty of cooking with them this week!

Julie – Thank you! My hubby does really love his pickles – and the funny thing is that he thinks we need to have MORE pickle plants next year. Well, at least we won’t have to buy any jars of pickles this year – and you won’t have to buy any tomato products! 🙂
