This past weekend I made my second annual trip out to the Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze in the Hudson Valley of NY. It featured a display of over 4,000 individually hand-carved glowing Halloween pumpkins on display in the form of dinosaurs, a UFO surrounded by aliens (my favorite part this year), pirates, a beehive abuzz with bees, sunflowers, and more. The setting was on the riverside grounds of the historic 18th century Van Cortlandt Manor. It was a cold but thankfully dry night as we wound our way through the spooky sights and sounds, sipping hot apple cider and munching apple cider donuts from a local orchard. What fun you must have had at the Witches Ball Stephanie. It looked amazing with all the booths lit up. You are right about that witches costume too. Really beautiful and the wings were very clever.
As for the pumpkins…how amazing is that. So many different designs. I love the tall flowers and the beehive best. How on earth did they get them stuck together? Are they built on to a frame? Perhaps I shouldn’t really ask the technicalities but just enjoy the photos…haha.

Cathy – I’m not sure what was used to get the pumpkins to stick together, but I am guessing some sort of metal framework. There was a fence separating us from the displays and it was quite dark except for the pumpkin lights, so I didn’t get any close looks at the construction.
